Troy Inman Photography

Troy Inman is a South African born photographer with a sharp curiosity for the world and everything in it. His work concentrates predominantly on man’s relationship with his environment and has been featured worldwide in books, magazines, exhibitions, NGO publications and commercial advertising material. Currently he is being featured as part of Land Rover Gear’s advertising campaign entitled ‘[Extra]ordinary people’.

‘The human was designed to walk, run or stop. It wasn’t built for coasting.’ – Cullen Hightower.

Coasting along has never been on Troy’s mind. He was born in 1971, qualified as a chartered accountant in his early twenties and implemented financial systems for investment banks in South Africa and London. A new life of endless expeditions began 11 years ago when he restored a Series 3 Land Rover and drove 24,000km across Africa. A trip that planted the seed to ‘go beyond’ and prompted further adventures - such as cycling across Tibet and Madagascar, or hiking the world’s largest and most remote jungles and mountain ranges - always watching the creatures and people of these wild areas and waiting for those moments of purity which characterize his work. His full time photographic career began in 2002 when, with funding from a conservation organization, he spent a year in the rain forests of Gabon in Central Africa, tracking and photographing the Western Lowland Gorillas of the Lope National Park. There he developed an extensive knowledge of Central Africa’s wildlife, it’s people and their traditional customs as well as the pressures on this vulnerable area.

Troy has a firm conviction to create images that stop people for a moment and reveal the beauty in a diversity of cultures and the wonder in the balance of natural ecosystems. His talent in capturing intimate and reflective views of daily life in all corners of the world gives him the opportunity to profoundly affect the viewer’s behavior.
